RG174 Cable VS RG174LL Cable

2024-09-29

RG174 cable and RG174 LL cable (Low Loss) are types of coaxial cables, commonly used in RF (radio frequency) communications. Though they share some similarities, they have distinct differences in terms of performance and use.

1. RG174 Cable:

  • Impedance: 50 ohms (standard for many RF applications).
  • Construction: It has a single, solid inner conductor, a dielectric insulator, a shielding layer (braid or foil), and an outer insulating jacket.
  • Attenuation: This cable has higher signal loss over long distances due to its thinner insulation and smaller conductor.
  • Flexibility: Highly flexible, which makes it ideal for tight spaces or mobile applications.
  • Common Uses: Can connect RF connectors, Fakra Connector for short-distance RF applications, such as WLAN antennas, GPS systems, and general-purpose connections.

2. RG174 LL Cable (Low Loss):

  • Impedance: Also 50 ohms, similar to standard RG174.
  • Construction: The RG174 LL cable has thicker or more advanced dielectric materials designed to reduce signal attenuation.
  • Attenuation: The "Low Loss" version has lower signal loss over long distances compared to standard RG174 cable.
  • Flexibility: While still flexible, it is slightly stiffer than standard RG174 due to the low-loss dielectric.
  • Common Uses: Can connect Mini Fakra Connector,Fakra connector and RF Connector. Applications that require better performance over longer distances, such as high-frequency RF applications, mobile communication, and outdoor antennas.
  • Mini fakra cable

Key Differences:

  • Signal Loss: RG174 LL has lower signal loss (attenuation), making it preferable for longer cable runs or higher frequency applications.
  • Construction: The dielectric and materials used in RG174 LL are optimized for reducing loss.
  • Flexibility: Standard RG174 is more flexible, while RG174 LL might be slightly less flexible but offers better electrical performance.

If you're looking for better performance in terms of reduced signal loss over longer distances, RG174 LL is the better choice. If flexibility and shorter cable lengths are more important, RG174 might be sufficient.
